Your home away from home will be the lovely Odyssey with it’s amazing staff and renowned food, located in the Askeli neighborhood of Poros. During your stay, you will take the historical walk into Poros and hear of her history and culture and learn about the architecture of this beautiful island. You will experience first hand the preparations for Easter happening all around. We will join in the procession from a local church and walk to the Center of Poros. A bier, prepared with flowers symbolizing the Body of Christ, is walked to the Center amongst other biers from local churches. Every local participates in this Epitafios procession, many carrying a candle. Afterwards, you will able to share an ouzo with the locals at one of the many tavernas on Poros.
On the day of the Rising of Christ, symbolized by the arrival of the “light” at midnight, each church’s priest will exclaim, “Christos Anesti.” We will have prepared our own candles and enjoy fireworks at the Naval Base. This will be the first moment for those who have fasted for 40 days to eat meat so there will be many bbq’s and dancing all around!
On Easter Day, we will travel by water taxi to Katerina and Rik’s olive grove and, in Greek tradition, roast a lamb on the spit and enjoy lunch Greek Easter Style with great food, amazing wines and Greek music for a spectacular party! Every time is a great time at the farm by the sea!
On another day you will have the pleasure of participating in Odyssey’s world renowned Greek cooking workshop with owner Katerina and her daughter, Dora! Clients return year after year for this amazing workshop because this day is always a delight! After the class, you will dine on the fresh meal you have prepared along with a local wine tasting and decide which wine goes best with your main course, all right at home!
During your stay, a guided day trip to the neighboring Island of Hydra will be sure to please! On Hydra, you will find no cars or motorbikes. Although the water may still be a bit cool, bring your bathing suit and try a dive off the rocks! There will be time for you to pop in the wonderful boutiques and have lunch. Leonard Cohen had a home here and many of his song’s were written on Hydra.
After an early breakfast on one of your days, you will driven by coach for a guided visit to several sites on the Peloponnese, the mainland. Your first stop will be The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century B.C. and is still in use! The acoustics are marvelous and worth experiencing yourself. Onwards, you will tour the world renowned Winery of Skouras and taste some amazing wines. Lunch will be in Nafplion, one of the MOST beautiful towns in Greece. After lunch you can enjoying exploring more on your own, shop and try the most amazing ice-cream ever at a famous gelateria.
There will be plenty of time for you to explore Poros on your own, enjoy one of her many beaches, witness an amazing sunset, rent a quad and explore, or just relax. You will need to rest to get ready for Odyssey’s Greek Night which includes and amazing dinner, enjoy live music and try out your Greek dancing moves! Don’t worry, they will teach you!
Before you know it, the time has come to say good-bye to Poros and head to the Greek Capital of Athens, a booming city rich with culture, but, only after a stop at the Corinth Canal for lunch. Your hotel in Athens will be located near the famous Acropolis, Syntagma Square, the Plaka and the King’s Garden. This afternoon, with your guide, you will visit the Acropolis and her museum. After lunch at the museum, you will visit the ruins of The Temple of Athena, the Propylaea and the Erechthyon. Dinner will be on your own this evening and this where we will say good-bye.
As for your next day, you are free to explore more of Greece’s capital on your own, whether it be a visit to the Flea Market, the National Museum, the Parliament Building to watch the changing of the guards or catch a live performance at the Irodeon Attikhs, the theatre right under the Acropolis! It is totally up to you to decide! Athens is very easy to get around with her subway and taxis.
Sadly, all nice things must come to an end. After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be collected by coach and transferred to Athens International airport for your departure. Leave some time for Duty Free!
